Inspired by Nature This design was inspired by the natural structure and patterns of Monarch butterfly wings. I wanted to recreate their delicate appearance while making them strong enough for 3D printing. The biggest challenge was combining thin, double-sided wings with detailed color patterns. By adding a hidden white layer between the two colored sides, I created a structure that holds everything together while still allowing light to pass through. This solution combines nature-inspired design with a practical approach to 3D printing, turning delicate butterfly wings into a functional illuminated decoration. Design and Printing Challenges I had wanted to create a butterfly like this for quite a long time, and I finally decided to take on the challenge. At first, creating the wings seemed quite simple. However, printing such thin, double-sided wings turned out to be much more difficult than expected. During normal printing, the colored sections kept separating from the rest of the wings. I tried different settings in Bambu Studio, but nothing really worked. Finally, I came up with the idea of placing a single white layer between the two colored sides of each wing. This layer connects all the sections together, and it worked perfectly. Printing Instructions The model consists of separate parts, including two wings, a body, antennae, and a modern base designed to hold a round LED light. The wings are printed flat with detailed color patterns on both sides. The base holds a round LED light that illuminates the wings from below. The individual parts are assembled after printing. No glue is required for assembly, but adding a drop here and there certainly won't hurt and can help keep everything securely in place. Important: If you plan to print this lamp, I strongly recommend using my print profile to make sure everything prints correctly. If you use a different slicer, please check my print profile to see exactly how the individual layers and sections of the wings should be colored. The hidden white layer is essential to prevent the colored sections from separating. The result is a beautiful butterfly sculpture that looks great during the day and becomes a glowing decoration at night.
