Hey Makers, I made Sokka's boomerang that ACTUALLY WORKS. Refer to the video/gif above for the flight video. This boomerang is surprisingly easy to throw and prints in only 1 hour! While I describe how to throw it below, I recommend watching a boomerang-throwing video before using. Nonetheless, the biggest tip I have for you is to throw to the right of the direction the wind is blowing. This makes the difference between a returning flight and a disappointing experience. While this model is not printable on the A1 mini at the moment, I will create an A1 mini version soon. Throwing Instructions (ALL IMAGES AND TEXT BELOW ARE VERY HELPFUL SO PLEASE READ: Hold the boomerang in front of you, holding the bottom of the long end with your thumb and inside of your pointer finger as shown below. Then curl your arm and wrist back, then release the boomerang to your right just above the horizon (with a slight flick). You don't need a super strong throw to get a return. Also, this boomerang does not require a significant tilt, and I've noticed that it flies better when thrown with almost no tilt at all. As the boomerang starts coming back, adjust and make the catch using the crocodile catching method. (Look up any terms if you don't understand). It takes some time to learn, so don't give up. If it doesn't come back, it isn't the boomerang's fault; you just don't have the technique down yet. Keep in mind that this boomerang has a fairly wide return circle, so make sure you're throwing in a wide-open area, or you'll end up with broken windows or a boomerang in a tree🤣. FYI: I painted mines to get the actual sokka design. You could use markers, paint, ect to do it. Quick Troubleshooting: Issue 1# If your boomerang is going up, then coming straight down, you are likely throwing with too much of an upwards/tilted angle. Refer to the video and images for the correct tilt angle. Issue 2# If your boomerang is stopping in front of you, try throwing with an extra bit of force. This should give you the extra returning distance you need. Issue 3# If your boomerang starts its return, then swoops up and goes into the ground, you are releasing at too low of an angle. Try again; release the boomerang just above the horizon line. Again, refer to a boomerang throwing tutorial for proper form. Keep in mind that this boomerang performs best in non-windy weather. As long as you're throwing to the right of the wind on a normal day, it will be fine, but a windy day can cause issues. HOW TO HOLDTHROWING DIRECTION
