Descripción

The Chain Driven Module is part of Mechlets, a modular system of mechanical machines that connect together and transfer motion from one module to the next.   This module demonstrates a chain-and-sprocket drive, similar to the mechanism used on bicycles and many real-world machines. Instead of meshing directly with one another, two sprockets are connected by a flexible printed chain that carries rotation from one shaft to the other. As the input turns, the chain travels around both sprockets, transferring motion across the module while keeping the two sprockets rotating in the same direction. The open design keeps the chain, sprockets and moving links visible so you can watch the power transfer happen. Part of the Mechlets System The Chain Driven Module is an add-on module and needs a Mechlets input/driver to set it in motion. If this is your first Mechlet, visit the original Mechlets collection to download a: Thumb Slider or Thumb Scroller drive module Additional mechanical modules Splitters and connecting modules for building larger arrangements All Mechlets share the same mechanical connection, so modules can be combined, rearranged and driven together. Motion enters the Chain Driven Module through its input gear, turns the first sprocket, and is carried through the chain to the second sprocket. How the Chain Drive Works A chain drive uses toothed sprockets connected by a flexible chain. Each sprocket tooth engages with the links of the chain, pulling it around the loop as the sprocket rotates.   Unlike a pair of meshing gears, which rotate in opposite directions, sprockets connected by an uncrossed chain rotate in the same direction. The mechanism demonstrates several useful mechanical ideas: Transferring rotation across a distance Driving two separated shafts Keeping both shafts rotating in the same direction Using sprocket size to change speed or torque Replacing a rigid gear train with a flexible transmission The exposed chain makes it easy to see how motion moves from one end of the module to the other. Fully 3D Printed The Chain Driven Module is designed around printed mechanical parts and snap-fit assembly: Two visible drive sprockets Fully printed flexible chain Open mechanism for easy viewing Printed gears for connection to the Mechlets system Snap-fit retaining components No screws No glue No bearings, motors or electronics The included assembly guide walks through sprocket installation, chain assembly, alignment, tension and testing. Note: After assembly, rotate the gears continuously for a minute or two. This short break-in period helps smooth out minor print roughness and allows the gear teeth to seat and mesh more smoothly with each other.
