Descripción

The Planetary Ring Module is part of Mechlets, a modular system of mechanical machines that connect together and transfer motion from one module to the next.   This module demonstrates a planetary gear system, with multiple planet gears rotating inside an internally toothed ring gear. As the Mechlets input turns the mechanism, the planet gears spin on their own axes while their carrier moves around the center of the module. The large circular opening keeps the planetary mechanism visible, making it easy to watch several types of rotary motion happening at the same time. Part of the Mechlets System The Planetary Ring is an add-on module and needs a Mechlets input/driver to set it in motion. If this is your first Mechlet, visit the original Mechlets collection to download a: Thumb Slider or Thumb Scroller drive module Additional mechanical modules Splitters and connecting modules for building larger arrangements All Mechlets share the same mechanical connection, so modules can be combined, rearranged and driven together. Motion enters the Planetary Ring Module through its input gear and is transferred into the planetary mechanism. How the Planetary Ring Works A planetary gear system combines several gears that share the same center of rotation: The ring gear surrounds the mechanism and has teeth on its inside surface. The planet gears mesh with the ring and rotate on their own shafts. The planet carrier holds the planet gears and moves them around the center of the mechanism. Because the planet gears are both spinning and traveling around the center at the same time, planetary gearing creates motion that looks much more complex than an ordinary pair of spur gears. In the Planetary Ring Module, the open face lets you watch these motions interact as you move the Mechlets driver forward and backward. A Compact Gear System Planetary gear systems are used in real machines because they can fit several interacting gears into a very small space. Different planetary arrangements can be used to change speed, torque and direction depending on which part of the gearset is driven or held stationary. The Planetary Ring Mechlet provides a simple, visible demonstration of the same basic geometry. Fully 3D Printed The Planetary Ring Module is designed around printed mechanical parts and snap-fit assembly: Internally toothed ring gear Multiple rotating planet gears Moving planet carrier Visible planetary mechanism Snap-fit retaining components No screws No glue No bearings, motors or electronics The included assembly guide walks through gear placement, carrier installation, alignment and testing.
