Hypnotic Spinner

🌀 Hypnotic Spinner A 3D-printed spinner designed to create a mesmerizing optical illusion as it rotates. The model includes two sizes — Large and Small. The smaller version is intentionally thicker, giving it more mass for its size and helping it maintain a smooth, continuous spin. For the large spinner, print the large plate twice. Only one copy is included in the files to avoid unnecessary duplication. For the best visual effect, use contrasting colors and position the two spinner plates in opposite orientations.   🔩 Bearings Required This model requires two standard 608 bearings. Recommended bearing dimensions: Outer diameter: 22 mm Inner diameter: 8 mm The 22 mm outer diameter fits into the center opening of each spinner plate, while the 8 mm inner diameter fits onto the rod part. You can also experiment with 3D-printed 608-style bearings — there are several available on MakerWorld — but for the smoothest and longest spin, real metal bearings are strongly recommended.   📏 Tolerances & Scaling This design relies on fairly precise fits, particularly between the bearings, spinner plates, and center rod. Because dimensional accuracy varies between printers, filaments, materials, and print settings, minor adjustments may be necessary. If the bearing fits too tightly or too loosely inside the spinner plate, try adjusting the diameter of the plate's bearing opening by approximately ±0.05 mm.  If the center rod fits too tightly or too loosely inside the bearing, try adjusting its diameter by approximately ±0.02 mm at a time.   For reference, my successful prints used: Large spinner: 8.12 mm rod diameter Small spinner: 8.10 mm rod diameter   The slight difference worked better with the different filaments I used.   🛠️ Assembly Guide For the strongest hypnotic effect, the two spinner plates should be installed in opposite orientations. This causes the patterns to interact visually while spinning and creates the illusion.   For the large spinner, print the large plate twice. Only one copy is included in the files to avoid unnecessary duplication.   Install the components onto the rod in this order: Round/Flat Cover → Nut → Bearing → Nut → Bearing → Nut → Round/Flat Cover   The small spinner requires the thicker center nut/spacer to provide enough clearance between the two plates and prevent them from colliding while spinning. The spinner plates can be pressed onto the bearings after the bearings have been installed on the rod.   On my prints, the friction fit was sufficient to hold everything securely, so no glue was required. However, printer tolerances vary. If any part does not fit securely, a small amount of appropriate adhesive may be used.   Before spinning, make sure that: Both plates rotate freely. The plates do not touch each other. The bearings and covers are securely seated.
