Thermoformed Etrog

Thermoformed Etrog 🍋 – Print Flat, Form in 3D This project uses a different approach to traditional 3D printing. Instead of printing the complete Etrog shape vertically, the main mesh sections are printed flat, then carefully formed into their final curved shape using a reusable 3D printed mold. The result is a lightweight decorative Etrog with an open lattice structure that would be difficult to achieve in the same way using a normal print orientation. How it works The project consists of: Two flat mesh Etrog sections (Honeycomb infill) Reusable forming mold Small locking / connector parts Top hanging connector The mesh sections are printed in PLA. The forming mold is printed in PETG, giving it better temperature resistance during the forming process. After printing, the PLA mesh is gently warmed until it becomes flexible and is shaped using the mold. Once cooled, it keeps the curved Etrog form. The two formed halves can then be assembled together using the included connector pieces. Materials Etrog: PLA | Connectors: PLA | Thermoforming Mold: PETG I strongly recommend PETG for the mold instead of PLA because the mold needs to remain rigid while the PLA mesh is being softened. Includes: Plate 1 Etrog mesh parts Plate 2 Thermoforming mold section Plate 3 Second mold section Plate 4 Connector / hanging components   Important Heat the PLA gradually. It only needs to become soft enough to form, it should not melt. Avoid overheating the mesh because the small structure can deform very quickly. Use appropriate heat protection when handling warmed parts.
