One-Handed Opener - fro Screw Tops This compact opener was designed to help people with limited grip strength, reduced dexterity, or only one functional hand open screw-top jars and bottles more independently. The tapered V-shaped opening accommodates different lid sizes. Simply push the lid toward the narrow section until the flexible teeth grip it securely, then rotate the jar or bottle with one hand. The opener can be mounted underneath a cabinet or flat on a worktop, depending on the user’s needs and preferred direction of movement. This isn’t a high-tech invention—just a simple, practical tool that can make everyday tasks easier when you only have one hand available. Having broken bones in my hands several times, I know firsthand how difficult something as basic as opening a jar can become, and how helpful tools like this can be. There are already plenty of similar openers you can buy, but I wanted to offer a free design you can 3D print yourself as an accessible alternative. The black gripping teeth are printed directly into the model using TPU. Recommended materials: Main body: PLA or PETG Gripping area: TPU 95A Textured build plate for a clean visible surface The TPU sections are integrated into the model and do not need to be assembled separately. Installation Under-Cabinet Mounting Mount the opener underneath a kitchen cabinet or shelf using the provided countersunk mounting holes. This position allows jars and bottles to remain upright during use. Select screws appropriate for the thickness and material of your cabinet. Make sure the screws cannot penetrate through the upper surface. Worktop Mounting Alternatively, mount the opener flat on a worktop with the gripping teeth facing upward. This allows you to press the lid into the opener from above, which some users may find easier or more comfortable. Secure it using screws suitable for the mounting surface. With this mounting position, the jar or bottle must be turned upside down. Only loosen the lid slightly, then return the container upright before fully removing it to avoid spills. How to Use Hold the jar or bottle upright. Push the lid into the V-shaped opening from below. Move it toward the narrow end until the TPU teeth grip the lid. Rotate the container to loosen the lid.
