Holzwurm – Woodworm Wall Trophy Meet the Holzwurm – the next strange inhabitant of my The Unusual Trophy Collection. The idea behind this collection is simple: I love the traditional look of classic wall trophies, but instead of deer, boars or other hunting trophies, I wanted to create something completely different. So I started designing a series of strange, fictional creatures mounted on their own decorative trophy plaques. And this time, something has been eating its way through the wood...   Boost MeThanks for Boost Me! The Holzwurm The Holzwurm is my interpretation of a very determined woodworm that has clearly grown a little too large for its surroundings. Instead of hiding inside the wood, this one has broken straight through the old wooden boards – complete with protective goggles and plenty of damage around him. The plaque itself is covered with holes, broken wood and gnawed details, making the whole model feel like the creature has actually worked its way through the trophy mount. Like the other models from this collection, the Holzwurm was designed especially for makers who enjoy printing, painting and creating their own decorative pieces. This is not just a model to print and forget. It is a project. 🖨️ Printing Despite the large amount of detail, the Holzwurm is surprisingly straightforward to print. One of the nicest things about this model is that it requires far less support than you might expect when looking at the finished trophy. I still strongly recommend using Tree Supports, but they are only needed in specific areas of the model rather than covering the entire print. That means the Holzwurm is mainly one thing: a long print – but not an unnecessarily complicated one. And the result is absolutely worth the wait.   The final printing time depends heavily on the selected layer height and print quality. For maximum surface detail, especially around the damaged wood, worm skin and goggles, I recommend choosing a finer layer height. 🎨 Made for painting The Holzwurm was deliberately designed with many different surfaces and textures. You get: organic skin and body folds damaged wood gnawed holes splintered edges metal bolts goggles cloth details That makes the model a great starting point for painting, weathering, drybrushing and experimenting with different materials and colors. You can make the wood look old and rotten, freshly broken, burned, mossy or completely fantastical. And of course, the Holzwurm itself does not have to look realistic at all. That is part of the fun. 🏆 The Unusual Trophy Collection The Holzwurm is part of my ongoing: The Unusual Trophy Collection A series of strange wall trophies featuring fictional creatures that you would probably never find hanging in a traditional hunting lodge. The Erzbergschnecke – Miner Snail Wall Trophy was the beginning. The Holzwurm is the next inhabitant. And more unusual creatures are already waiting. If you enjoy creative 3D printing projects, painting and slightly ridiculous wall decorations, keep an eye on the collection. And if you print your own Holzwurm: Please share your Make – I would really like to see what crawls out of your workshop.
