CapDock – One-Handed Pen & Marker Cap Aid | CapSnap Brief CapDock is a simple, fully 3D-printable aid designed to make opening and recapping capped pens and markers easier with one hand.           The idea is simple: instead of having to remove, hold and manipulate the cap separately, CapDock uses a guided vertical movement and gravity to keep the cap in the right position. HOW IT WORKS 1. PUSH Insert the capped pen or marker vertically into the tapered opening at the top of CapDock. The wide, tapered slot guides the writing instrument into position and accommodates different sizes, approximately 8–16 mm in diameter. 2. PULL Simply pull the pen or marker straight up. The writing instrument slides out of its cap, while the cap falls into the cradle below. 3. THE CAP POSITIONS ITSELF The specially shaped cradle naturally guides the cap into an angled position of approximately 45°. The cap remains easily accessible and oriented for the next step. No need to pick it up or manipulate it separately. 4. RECAP Bring the pen or marker back down and push it directly into the cap. The angled position makes it easy to align the writing instrument with the cap and recap it using the same simple vertical movement. The complete operation is: PUSH → PULL → RECAP       DESIGN FEATURES Designed for one-handed operation Suitable for capped pens and markers Accommodates approximately 8–16 mm diameters Portable design – clamps securely to desks and tables up to 30 mm thick with a large hand-tightened bolt Tapered entry slot for easy positioning Gravity-assisted cap positioning Angled cradle keeps the cap accessible No springs or complex mechanisms Designed to be securely mounted to a desk or table Fully 3D printable Simple design with minimal parts       The goal was to solve the accessibility challenge through geometry rather than a complicated mechanism. CapDock was designed as a simple, practical response to the CapSnap brief of the Make for Good: Accessibility Design Contest, while keeping the device easy to print, portable and usable in everyday environments.
