What It Is The ReSpool Piggy Bank or Modular Coin Tower, is a simple modular money box built around the cardboard cores found inside filament refill spools. Instead of printing a large plastic container, the cardboard core forms the main body of the money box. Only the base, connecting rings and coin-slot top need to be 3D printed. Some decorative tape to make the piggy bank more appealing.This is a standalone ReSpool project. It is not part of the ReSpool Workbench system, but you can use any of the  reSpool components collection.   Upcycling by Design Like the other projects in the ReSpool collection, the Coin Tower gives a useful second life to a part that would normally be discarded. Using the cardboard core as the main structure significantly reduces filament consumption while providing plenty of storage space. The design is intentionally simple, practical and easy to assemble. Modular Capacity One cardboard core creates a compact money box. For additional capacity, multiple cardboard cores can be stacked using the printed connecting rings. This allows you to build a taller Coin Tower without printing a larger container. Bear in mind that coins are heavy. Tall configurations should always be placed on a flat and stable surface, and for better stability, glue the middle and bottom sections to the cardboard cylinder Two sections stacked - Middle section available on the print profileCoin Slot The top includes a 40 × 4 mm (1.57 × 0.16 in) slot. This opening accommodates all standard euro and US coins, including larger coins. Banknotes can also be inserted after folding. The rounded ends make the opening smoother and help coins and folded banknotes pass through more easily. It's not easy to remove the money afterwards… ;) you will need to open it.  Key Features Reuses cardboard cores from filament refill spools Requires only a small number of printed parts Modular and stackable capacity Simple assembly Removable parts for emptying Suitable for euro and US coins, banknotes Easy to customize with different colors and finishes, if you have a laser capable machine, that can engrave cylindrical parts, you can take the costumizations to another new level.  Materials The base, connecting rings and top can be printed in PLA, PETG or another rigid material of your choice. Standard PLA is suitable for normal indoor use. Leftover filament can also be used to create unique color combinations and reinforce the upcycling character of the project. You will also need one or more compatible cardboard cores from filament refill spools. Printing Print: One base One coin-slot top One connecting ring for each additional cardboard core (optional) Supports are required for the optional connecting ring. Cardboard dimensions can vary slightly between manufacturers and may also be affected by humidity or storage conditions. Check the fit before assembling a tall configuration. you can always adjust a bit the scale on bambu studio. Assembly Fit the first cardboard core onto the printed base. Add a connecting ring if you want to increase the capacity. Fit another cardboard core and repeat as required. Complete the tower with the coin-slot top. Place the assembled money box on a flat and stable surface. The components can be press-fitted or glued, depending on the dimensions of your cardboard cores. Do not permanently glue the part that you intend to remove when emptying the money box. Optional Anti-Slip Base A laser-cutting profile is included for producing an optional anti-slip base, adding both grip and a distinctive finishing touch to the Coin Tower. The base can be made from: Natural cork TPU EVA foam Cork and EVA Foam examplesNatural cork is the recommended option because of its anti-slip properties, renewable and biodegradable nature, and especially attractive appearance when combined with the cardboard core. EVA foam is another practical option and can also be cut using the included laser profile. If you do not have access to a laser cutter, the cork or EVA base can be cut manually using the printed part as a template. Always follow the appropriate safety and ventilation recommendations for your laser cutter and the material being used. Safety Coins and small printed components can present a choking hazard. This model is not a toy and should be kept away from babies and very young children. Do not build an excessively tall configuration. The tower becomes considerably heavier as it fills with coins, which may affect its stability. Design Notes The ReSpool Coin Tower deliberately remains a very simple project. Its purpose is to demonstrate how a discarded cardboard spool core can become a useful object with only a few printed components. The design follows the basic ReSpool philosophy: Reuse the cardboard, print only what is necessary and adapt the final object to your needs. Feel free to experiment with different colors, heights and finishes to create your own version.
