Universal Plotter - PEN / LASER engraver

Universal Plotter - Laser / Pen Drawing   Boost MeMembership  Build your own universal plotter based on GRBL firmware. The priority of this kit is its low price. The GRBL firmware has some minor shortcomings. If you want more flexible control over both the laser and pen drawing, I will release an upgrade for FluidNC, which is already fully functional for multipurpose machines.   The kit is designed for 20x60 and 20x40 profiles, as well as 3D-printed parts. All components needed for assembly can be found in the bill of materials below.   Assembly with laser: I recommend purchasing a cutting mat for laser engraving. This design is optimized for a 400x400mm cutting mat. Therefore, a single start command would activate both tools. That is why it is important to always have either the laser or the servo plugged in—never both at the same time!   This can be solved with a more modern board, for which I can prepare a 3D model of the enclosure and create new firmware.   Lasers and servos are such different technologies that the ideal solution would be to build either a PEN version or a LASER version; in that case, standard GRBL firmware adapted for either the laser or the servo would suffice.    Here is a link to download a modified GRBL that can control both, but you must always change parameter $32! Setting $32=2 activates servo mode, and $32=1 activates laser mode!   $32=0  → spindle $32=1  → LASER $32=2  → SERVO   If you don’t have enough experience, I recommend building only one or the other variant and strictly configuring the GRBL firmware for only one mode.   Or you can wait until I release a version with FluidNC, which will use an ESP32 board—specifically, the Makerbase MKS DLC32 GRBL Controller. That board already has enough PWM outputs. But that’s not currently part of the design… It will come later if there’s interest…   This dual system is only possible when using an Arduino UNO and a CNC Shield! In the bill of materials, I also offer the CNC 3018 Pro Laser Engraver Woodworking 3-Axis CNC Engraving Machine Control Board (24V), which is only compatible with the laser version. In this case, there is no need to power the laser externally directly from a 12V power supply; instead, you can use the dedicated TTL connector on the board.
