It helps keep the filament flowing, the printers busy, and the aliens multiplying. 👽☕ The Thinker – Step-Sitting Alien Halloween Display Meet The Thinker — the newest member of the Alien Scout Team. 👽🤔 This guy is a little different from the rest of my larger aliens. The Thinker was designed at about 75% of the scale of my life-size Alien Scout Team models, which puts him at roughly 30 inches tall if he were standing upright. Instead of taking over the yard, he was designed specifically to sit on a front step and watch everyone coming to visit. I printed mine to sit on the stairs and greet the trick-or-treaters as they make their way to the door. With the elbows resting on his knees and his hands folded in front of him, he looks like he’s quietly studying every human who walks past. Whether he’s thinking about the meaning of life or just wondering who has the best Halloween candy is up for debate. 👽 A Different Size for the Alien Scout Team The Thinker is intentionally smaller than Scout, Lurker, Jimmy, Commander and the other full life-size aliens. At approximately 75% of their scale, he’s large enough to make an impact but compact enough to fit naturally on a standard set of front stairs. If he stood straight up, he would be approximately 30 inches tall. In his seated position, though, he’s exactly where he belongs — sitting on the steps waiting for visitors. 🎃 Designed to Greet Trick-or-Treaters The Thinker was created specifically with a front porch or staircase Halloween display in mind. Sit him on a step near the front door and let him quietly watch everyone approach. He works great: Sitting on front stairs Beside the front door Sitting on pumpkins or other Halloween decorations Watching over a walkway Alongside the larger Alien Scout Team Waiting for unsuspecting trick-or-treaters There’s something about having him sitting there at nearly human-kid size that makes him feel surprisingly convincing. 🖨️ Big Display – Only One Roll of Filament Despite his size, The Thinker is a surprisingly economical print. Using the supplied print profile, the complete model takes approximately one roll of filament. (Be sure to have a 2nd roll as backup just in case it goes over slightly on your printer…it comes out VERY close to 1kg) That makes him a much more manageable project than the full life-size aliens while still giving you a substantial Halloween display piece. The model has been divided into printable sections so it can be made on a standard-size 3D printer and assembled afterward. 🔩 Pentagon Dowels for Easier Assembly Like my newer Alien Scout Team models, The Thinker uses 3D-printed pentagon dowels to align and connect the different sections. The pentagon shape helps keep the pieces properly oriented and prevents them from rotating while everything is being assembled. Important: There are three different sizes of pentagon dowels used in this model, so pay close attention during assembly and make sure you’re using the correct dowel for each connection. They may look similar sitting on the workbench, but they are not interchangeable. All of the required dowels are included with the model files. 🛸 Part of the Alien Scout Team The Thinker joins the growing Alien Scout Team, but his smaller scale gives him a different role in the display. While the larger aliens can take over the yard, The Thinker can sit right on the front steps and get a much closer look at the humans coming to the door. If you already have some of the life-size Alien Scout Team printed, he’s a great way to add another character without committing to another nearly two-roll-sized project. 📸 Show Me Where He Ends Up If you print The Thinker, please post a photo of your build! One of my favourite parts of this whole project is seeing where in the world the Alien Scout Team has landed — and I especially want to see all the different porches and staircases where this guy ends up sitting. 🌎👽🛸 He’s smaller than the life-size crew... but he gets the best seat in the house.
