History of the Object The devotion to Our Lady of Aparecida began in 1717, when three fishermen in Brazil discovered a small terracotta statue of the Virgin Mary in the Paraíba do Sul River. After finding the body of the statue followed by its head, they experienced an unexpectedly abundant catch of fish. News of miracles associated with the statue spread throughout Brazil, and devotion continued to grow. Today, Our Lady of Aparecida is honored as the Patroness of Brazil, with her feast celebrated each year on October 12. Supports & Removal Notes Tree supports are recommended where needed.
