«SCYTHEON MK.IV HYBRID» Cyberpunk mantis blade «Hey, choom! Well, what do you say, time to put a little more "cyber" into this punk? I got just the thing for you — some shiny, brand-new military-grade chrome. Just make sure to upgrade your ICE and keep those damn netrunners off your back, hermano. So, what's it gonna be... time to become a legend, no?» 1. Concept Few pieces of sci-fi equipment are as iconic as the cybernetic mantis blade. This project is inspired by that legendary concept while deliberately avoiding a direct reproduction of any specific design. Instead of replicating an existing prop, the focus was placed on engineering, functionality, and manufacturability. Every component was designed from the ground up to create a fully mechanical model that is both visually convincing and practical to build. The result is a 100% 3D-printable, fully functional mechanism that requires no additional hardware — no screws, springs, magnets, pins, or glue. Every moving part is printed and assembled into a working extendable blade mechanism. Rather than being just a static display piece, this model was created as an engineering project that demonstrates what can be achieved using modern desktop 3D printing while capturing the unmistakable aesthetic of the cyberpunk genre. 3. Description Overview The model consists of a forearm bracer, decorative hydraulic cylinders, a three-link extension mechanism, an extendable claw blade, and a manual drive handle. The complete project consists of 78 printed parts, plus two dedicated assembly wrenches used during construction. The wrenches are assembly tool only and are not part of the finished model. Despite the term "blade" being used, the model does not incorporate an actual sharpened blade. All exposed edges are intentionally blunt, with a minimum chamfer of 1.5 mm, making the finished model suitable as a cosplay prop or display piece rather than a cutting tool. To operate the mechanism, place the bracer around your forearm and secure the two halves using the integrated locking clips. Pull the drive handle downward to deploy the linkage and extend the blade. Pull the handle upward to fully retract the blade and fold the mechanism back into its compact position. The mechanism is fully mechanical and operates reliably in any orientation, whether held horizontally, vertically, or upside down. With the exception of several screws and the internal gears used in the blade extension mechanism, the design is fully symmetrical and can be assembled for either the left or the right arm. Dimensions Deployed: 800 × 196 × 124 mm Folded: 350 × 130 × 124 mm The articulated linkage extends to an overall length of 600 mm, measured from the first folding pivot to the end of the claw blade. 4. Printing Material Compatibility This product is designed to be printed entirely from PETG. Main Print Settings Layer height: 0.2 mm Nozzle: 0.4 mm Perimeters: 3 Top solid layers: 1.2 mm Bottom solid layers: 1.2 mm Infill: 40% Supports: Tree supports Printing Recommendations For the best results, it is strongly recommended to use the supplied print profile without modifications. 5. Assembly A comprehensive, fully illustrated step-by-step assembly manual is included. Every assembly step is explained in detail, making the build process straightforward despite the model's sophisticated mechanical design.
