Always there when you need it. Never in the way when you don't. Like other filament clip giants before me, I decided to throw my hat into the ring. Meet The Wingman. Every spool deserves one. The Wingman securely parks your filament when it's not in use, then quietly stays out of the way while you print. No snags. No rubbing. No surprises. Just a simple clip that's there when you need it and invisible when you don't. Why Yet Another Filament Clip? Because I kept trying the "good" ones and finding little things that annoyed me. Some snagged filament. Some didn't stay attached very well. Some required threading way more filament than seemed necessary. Some were so aggressively optimized to save filament that they forgot they actually needed to print successfully. None of these were deal breakers, but together they convinced me to make my own. So I did. Why The Wingman? Curves in all the right places Some clips have sharp edges, straight walls, or little ridges that can catch filament as it moves around the spool. The Wingman was designed with smooth, rounded surfaces wherever filament might encounter it, because nobody wants a multi-hour print to fail because of a 1-cent piece of plastic. Secure enough to forget about Some clips rely on a single spool hole. Others barely fit. The Wingman uses two mounting points and confidently snaps into place with a satisfying click, staying exactly where you put it. Quick filament parking Some clips are designed to capture a long length of filament before they're satisfied. Why? The Wingman only needs a very short section of filament for a secure hold, making loading and unloading quick and painless. Optimized for actual printing Some designs appear to be competing in a least amount of filament contest. Unfortunately, saving 0.05 grams doesn't help much if the part fails halfway through printing. The Wingman was designed to print reliably first. Once that was achieved, material was trimmed away until only what was needed remained. Features Works with the AMS Lite (with or without top mount), AMS HT, AMS, and AMS 2 Pro Secure dual-pin design snaps firmly into place No pliers, tools, or colorful language required Designed to remain attached during printing and drying Specifically optimized for Bambu spools Gently angled filament path for a secure hold and easy insertion Integrated guide line helps with filament insertion while adding a subtle finishing touch Only 0.47g per clip Important Notes Print with a filament intended for functional parts. PLA Matte and other brittle materials may not survive repeated use. To remove a clip, simply push the pegs back through the spool holes using any small object. Depending on filament shrinkage, the filament opening may initially fit tightly. If needed, run a short piece of filament through the opening a few times before use. This is most noticeable with abrasive filaments such as PLA Glow. If using a filament dryer, print The Wingman using a material capable of handling the temperatures you intend to use. Instructions Print as many Wingmen as your spools deserve, keeping the supplied orientation unchanged for best results. Align the pegs with the spool holes and push until they snap securely into place. Feel strangely satisfied. Let the guide line do the aiming, then push the filament into place. Consider adding a second Wingman to the same spool. Future You will appreciate it. The best Wingman knows when to stay out of the way.
